As part of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, Anses organized a theme day on “Antibiotic resistance in animal health: a One Health approach” on November 19, 2024.

To reprise their program, this conference was an opportunity to present the main results of the various surveillance systems coordinated by Anses:

  • "Monitoring sales of veterinary medicines containing antimicrobials in France in 2023. This monitoring enables us to assess the exposure of domestic animals to antibiotics and other antimicrobials, and to track changes in practices in different animal species.
  • European monitoring of animal antibiotic resistance. On a national level, Anses monitors the resistance of bacteria that can contaminate human beings via food of animal origin. The results of this surveillance are used to monitor developments at European level.
  • Résapath (Réseau d'épidémiosurveillance de l'antibiorésistance des bactéries pathogènes animales). This network monitors trends in antibiotic resistance in all domestic animal species in France."

Find out more about the conference below, including a round-table discussion entitled “The One Health dimension of antibiotic resistance: let's talk about it!” with the participation of Léonie Varobieff (philosopher, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), Claire Harpet (anthropologist, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), Nicolas Fortané (sociologist, Inrae) and Patrick Giraudoux (ecologist, Université de Franche-Comté).

The press kit on the monitoring of veterinary antibiotic sales in 2023 can be found here, and more information on the event can be found on their website.
